Merry Christmas to You

This is the final weekend before Christmas, last minute shoppers and real shopaholics are spotted everywhere in Orchard. I am dazzled by the paper bags that shoppers are carrying because they are all from top brand name like LV, Loewe....if economists see what I've seen, there is no economy downturn and no financial tsunami!

Christmas is celebrated by majority as a merry holiday oblivion of its'real meaning. "Last Christmas" by Wham re-appears as the number 1 song that played by local radio stations and shopping centres year after year has become a culture.

I have prepared presents for work place Christmas gift exchange and contributed my not so proud wrapping skill for the presents of my little nieces and nephews. I think they won't mind the unsightly wrapping at all.

Looking back into my limited blog entries, I have spent my past two years year end holiday in Japan. This year, going overseas for holiday has not crossed my mind. Is it due to stronger yen or economy crisis? I don't know. Just like those shoppers that I have brief encountered this weekend, I do not mind to spend a little to buy Christmas presents for our cherised one.

A Pot of Tea

A pot of English Breakfast tea and few fashion magazines made the waiting time at the departure hall unnoticeable.

Sipping hot tea, flipping pages of glamarous articles has somewhat calmed my nerve a little.

Hardrock Yogurt

We spotted Baskin-Robbins at Incheon Airport on our last day in Seoul. Baskin-Robbins, like Dunkin' Donuts, has yet to make their presence in Singapore. Staff prepared the delicious yogurt ice-cream in front of us. I ordered something safe with strawberry, nonetheless, it was heavenly yummy.

83th Club Day

I learnt Club Day from Tour2Korea (www.tour2korea.com). Every last Friday of the month is Club Day where "clubbers" only need to pay a flat fee of 15,000 won to enter more than 11 clubs nearby Hongik University, or 'Hongdae' (홍대). The entrance ticket covers one compliment drink.

I was excited about Club Day since I have not made my presence in clubbing scene many moons already. We got our Korean friend, Sang Woo, to bring us there.

Our Club Day was the 83th (it was on the poster when we purchased the admission ticket, it said 83th Club Day) since it was introduced. Admission cost has increased to 20,000 won and it covered more than 11 clubs. We patronized two clubs and sort of danced. You could imagine being a Friday night and also a Club Day, party-goers are hundreds in the same dance floor, shoulder to shoulder and body was rubbing to another body, frankly it was not really pleasant but for the experience.

This place served delicious 삼겹살 "sam-gyeop sal" (barbecue pork) and it's owner is a friendly ajumma who tried to introduce us to her friend who could converse a little bit in English.

Yummy Meals with Great Company (Part I)

Nothing beats the good food and good company. I am not a detailed person and I've forgotten to take down the names of the food that we've tasted, so I've decided to just let the pictures speak for themselves.

This place was recommended by our dance teacher from DMC Dance Company. It is conveniently located at the first floor of the building. We had this pork rib with soup, the portion didn't look big at first, yet five of us did try our best to finish it.

Break Out

Since we're going to spend Saturday night and Sunday late noon for Shinhwa's concert, Friday night was the only "free" night for us and we decided to watch "Break Out". More information of the show here. This show apparently received more applaud in England.

Dance Class

My cousin loves dancing and she has pre-arranged two mornings of private lessons at DMC Dance Company with her friends in girl hip-hop, jazz, hip-hop and popping and locking. Through her passion in dancing, she introduce hip-hop to me and opened my eyes to other types of dances.

막걸리

Despite of the tight schedule, we have managed to plan quite a number of activities by compromising our beauty sleep. One of the important itineraries is to meet our friend, Sang Woo.

(Sang Woo and Cassandra)

Sang Woo wanted to show us another side of Korea by introducing us 막걸리, traditional Korea rice wine. With my basic Korean, I have mispronounced 막걸리 "mak-geol-ri" to 목걸이 "mok-geo-li" (necklace) many times.

막걸리 was filled in bowl not glass or cup. We played 삼,육,구 or 3,6,9 in English. It is a number counting game, whoever's turn to name the number 3,6 or 9 would have to replace the numbers by clapping their hands, it went on to 13, 16, 19 so on and so forth.

Playing the game wouldn't help us to understand each other better but it did help to break the ice among some of us who met each other for the first time.

It didn't matter that this was my "N"th trip to Korea, but it did matter was that this was the first trip after 2 years. A long 2 years gap. I was usually excited before going for a trip, any trip, because I will be away from work! But somehow not for this trip with its' simple reason : short. Yes, I was here for 3 nights only. Thanks to Shinhwa, they have created another excuse for me to visit Korea again.

看雪，看海，看日落

所以嘴边常向友人提议去某某国家看雪过个白色的冬天或去海边走走，友人都会不以为然聳聳肩膀不了了之。

我的早晨就在一杯咖啡乌开始。
在夏天的东京，咖啡座是我避暑乘凉的地方。
到了冬天，咖啡座也是我取暖的场所。

麦当劳的咖啡是我在东京喝过最经济的咖啡，100日元。

소주(soju)

소주(soju)是韩国一种普遍的杯中物。如果我没记错的话，它可以从马铃薯或玉米酿造出来的。它不像一般葡萄酒与啤酒带有苦涩的味道，소주(soju)的味道是甜甜的更容易入口。但它的酒精程度是远超以葡萄酒和啤酒。由以它的甜味，每一次喝超过两三瓶乃是普遍的事，当然喝醉了也是自然的事。像韩剧里，男主角背着喝醉了的女主角，在韩国时也亲眼目睹过。

轻酌杯中物可以是一种享受，过多的享用不见得是件好事。我想凡事都是一样的，适可而止乃是最佳方程式。

Nowadays, I have a new nickname, is called YouTube-er. It is similar to couch potato but the difference is I watch the uploaded programmes from Youtube instead. During this period, I have my Korean drama and Japanese drama marathon. I have also fallen in love with this song, Flavor of Life by Utada Hikaru.

自己是个離鄉背井,在国外工作多年的"浪子". 由於廉價航空所带来的便利,回返老家探望,藉機小休的次數也愈頻繁. 老家, 哥打京那巴路, 是一個生活步伐遠比新加坡緩慢很多的小鎮.

最近發覺自己有個壞習慣,一回到老家就坐在電腦前一再漫遊在綱路中, 似乎不能脫離這個文明的生活方式.

Jump

With the invitation from my cousin who always fond of Korea news and culture, we watched Jump yesterday at the Singapore's Theatres on the Bay. Quoting from Esplanade website: "JUMP is a high-octane martial arts extravaganza hailing from Korea that features gravity-defying stunts such as slick acrobatics, sword fighting and wall-walking!"

Jump definitely reminded me of Nanta. Both performances are interesting and fun and we have enjoyed every minute of it!

情书（Love Letter）

笫一次看情書(Love Letter)这部电影已是十年前的事了. 雖然事隔多年, 影片的某些情景偶然会浮現在腦海里. 不僅如此, 由於它是一杵经典名作，偶尔在報章上或朋友与朋友之間，甚至其他的影片也会運用它作题材，所以要忘记也忘记不了。

情書(Love Letter) 是一部让我印象深刻的电影，但郤不是一部我喜欢的电影。因为每想到这部电影，我就会联想到一个女孩独自在冰天雪地里，向遠方的山林高喊:"你好嗎?" 仍然記得当我看到这幕情节的一刹那, 淚水不知不觉的已湧滿眼眶, 继而哽咽起来.

这是一部有关爱、思念和遗憾的电影，我不爱这部电影，因为它让我感受到无穷的心痛和伤感。

双脚踏入尺深的雪地，
困难的步行者，步伐缓慢，朝你的方向走去，
阴霾的天空下者微雪，就只有微雪在伴者我，
